“Tell me where the children are!” Revan ordered.

“Hmm?” Reika said, cocking his head and looking puzzled

“Children, what children?” he said, still looking confused.

“Don’t play games with me you bastard,” Revan said, “the children your sith assassins kidnapped on Dantooine.”

“Oh those children,” Reika said, with an air of sudden comprehension, “no idea.”

“I said don’t toy with me,” Revan yelled, growing angrier and more frustrated by the minute.

“I am not lying to you,” Reika said, “I do not know the exact location of these children you speak of.”

“They could be at any one of several locations I instructed the assassins to take them.”

“And before you ask,” Reika said, cutting off Revan before he even opened his mouth, “I can assure you that they are safe and unharmed.”

“You think I’d trust the word of a sith,” Revan shouted, “what kind of fool do you take me for?”

“I can’t blame your distrust of the sith,” Reika said, “I wouldn’t take anything apprentice says for granted.”

“You’re damn…” Revan paused, the impact of what Reika had just said registering in his brain.

“What do you mean?” Revan said, slightly perplexed.

“Simply that if it’s the sith you are worried about, then it is Darth Cyvan that you should go after, not I.”

Silence falls over the room following these words.

“The sith are always in pairs,” Revan said cautiously, as if seeking to confirm a long held belief that had all of a sudden fallen into question, “master and apprentice.”

“You are clearly the master; are you not?” Revan asked.

“I am indeed the master among the pair of us,” Reika said with a smile.

“Well then, you must be a sith,” Revan concluded.

Reika smiled again and laughed, a laugh that sent chills up Revan’s arms and neck. It was a laugh devoid of any mirth or humor. It was like that of an executioner about to bring the vibro-blade down upon his victim’s neck, a cold evil laugh.

“My dear Revan,” Reika said, “I would have expected you of all people not to be so judgmental.”
Reika sat back down in his hover chair and folded his arms.

“If you are not sith,” Revan pressed on, “what are you?”

“I was once a jedi knight,” Reika said, “much as you are now.”

“Once,” Revan said, “what happened to make you no longer a jedi?”

“They tried to eliminate me and failed,” Reika explained, “but, the fools, unable to accept the consequences of their failure edited the records first to say that I was killed and later to deny my existence entirely.”

“So you see Revan, you and I are not all that different.”

“I am not the least bit like you,” Revan retorted.

“And if you used to be a jedi, then why do I sense a strange presence about you?”

“Because I am no longer a jedi,” Reika said.

“But back to the order of you and your little group of friends,” Reika said, “the attack at the enclave was only the beginning.”

“However, I can offer you all protection and an ally.”

“How so?” Revan asked.

“I will agree to harbor, fuel, equip, feed, water, and otherwise protect and support your team if you all swear allegiance to me and……”

“And……” Revan said with a sense of foreboding.

“under the condition that you agree to take your place opposite Cyvan, as my left hand man.”

“And what about the kids?” Revan asked.

“Your children shall be returned to you unharmed,” Reika said, “provided that once they are trained they agree to fight with me as well.”

“Tempting offer,” Revan said, “but I think I’ll pass!”
