Topic: The Rise of Skywalker

History has made cautious of this trilogy, but the review and the trailers for te new movie have been spectatular.

This is from Richard Grant ( a great actor ) and the role Allegiant General Pryde, a high-ranking general in the First Order. Granted He's biased, since he's in the movie but his reaction to the screening was epic. I know you have all seen the 2 min trailer for the movie so I wont both but damn.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

I like to think they've hit the limits of how bad they can get... but then I'm just cynical enough to never assume that.

On a related note, it is great fun to wind up one of the other guys at work by just mentioning The Last Jedi. He hated it so much.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Hahaha yes for sure. Any long-time watcher should be. They royally screwed up those other.

As to your co-worker, some people have thicker skin than others. Hahah.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

The movie was god awful. I truly have never so disappointed in a film. It has me worrying that they will botch the KOTOR movie series. It was painfully cliche, and pandered to a storybook ending.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Hang on, you hated that one more than The Last Jedi?

I mean, I've seen worse films than Rise of Skywalker (admittedly not saying much as I saw the live action Thunderbirds (pro tip, don't)) and there was some cliché stuff but at the same time I'm glad they avoided some of the other more annoying cliché stuff I was expecting from them.

Or as boyf said afterwards: "Well, at least he got dead."

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

I hated it more, due to the expectations I had for it. The last jedi was bad, and everyone knew it... they knew they had to peform and they royally screwed up again.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Maybe I'd given up expectations...

From what I could tell it was as if the writers went "right, we need to kill this set of people, how do we do that?" and then wrote a series of excuses to do so. Also, why didn't Leia pull that stunt years earlier? Because Kylo Ren wtf?

Also Finn's "I never told you" to never be spoken off again once they left the caves. Did you guys forget about that? Did Poe do anything other than be shot? I mean, Zorii found them technically, then spent the rest of her time trying not to shoot him.

Halfway through the film I was worried that Rey was going to fall and it was going to be down to Kylo to kill her in an X-men three type scenario. That might not have been as bad. Or just have Rey rise as the new emperor in her own right and screw random Palpatine clone star forge shite, that could have been fun.

I'm sure I didn't dislike the movie this much when I started typing...

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

It just seemed to be a storybook, every one of the movies was predictable and cheesy.

Yeah I thought they got sloppy. I would have loved if rey fell.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

I personally like it. I think it’s a bit rushed, but I mean it’s not Last Jedi, and that’s a plus.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Yes, not the debacle that was the last Jedi, but I'm glad this saga is over with. They really need to focus on developing a plot, rather than rushing to production.

That or one cohesive creative person or group.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

They should literally just ask the people who wrote the pre-disney cannon work to write the scripts.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

The would make Disney look incompetent. They would rather people call them out, than admit they don’t know what their doing.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Technically it would be like hiring an expert, and I'm sure I've seen credits such as "continuity coordinator" before.

It comes down to a conscious decision to remove all past canon so that they're not restricted to more than they have to be and therefore can milk the franchise for all it's worth. It's a business to them, not a labour of love.

What makes money. If people like it, that’s bonus. They don’t care otherwise.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Sadly that what its come to.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

It could’ve been so different.

Force Awakens was nostalgic, yes. But, they still told a new story while using old plot beats.

Rian Johnson doesn’t get Star Wars. That’s my opinion and I’ll stick to it. Good director overall, but the Last Jedi wasn’t a Star Wars film, it was a space comedy.

The Rise of Skywalker tried too much, they had to please literally everyone. I’m a hypocrite, because I’ll over look it’s flaws and I give it the benefit of what it was.

But now, the end is here. And Skywalkers face, the final curtain...unless Disney says so...

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

To be fair it might be better if they start telling brand new stories in the SW universe rather than paying continual homage to the ones who started it all.

I'd like to think that would give them the creative freedom to make something great again, but maybe it'd fail.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Oh man I wish the prequels never happened. Imagine how much could’ve been told if there wasn’t those three films.

Re: The Rise of Skywalker

Tbf it wasn't so much that they happened, but how they happened.

They could have told a good story, but no, they went for... that. I mean, in a way it's impressive that it was so bad that Jedi Samuel L Jackson and Ewan McGregor didn't make up for much of it.

Also I liked the droid who wielded four lightsabres, I thought they wasted him as a villain. Can't remember his name...

Edit: General Grievous! Literally came to be as I pressed submit.
