In certain movies or TV shows there's always someone with the nickname Lucky when in fact they're missing a leg or some fingers or something other. The irony is they're not really lucky. Tada... lol

Re: Machines of War

Bao places the medpak on Lsugi. "It may help him hold on until we can get the medics here," he says. Suddenly his expression changes. "You're right. The force is being drained somehow...hmmm..."

"I thought Master Orcor was in conference with Master Ti'gla, but who know where they are in this mess. If they even survived."

-----meanwhile----------

The original idea for the trip to Yavin now seemed pointless. Skywalker had been going to attend a graduation ceremony, but instead was recruiting volunteers for a rescue team. Several of the volunteers had been former combat students under his teaching. He smiled to think of these young warriors now training their own padawans. Hopefully here on Yavin they could avoid the politics that seemed to infest the Academy on Coruscant.

Very few Jedi remained at the enclave on Yavin. But even as he looked at the group of Jedi knights and padawans crammed together in the shuttle, Tran knew that it would not be enough to confront whatever evil had caused the destruction.

Re: Machines of War

George shakes his head, and turns around and sees Bao placing the medpack on some guy. He approaches him and Mikaela, clears his throat and asks: "Excuse. Do you know who is in charge here, I have some important information?" He felt that somehow force was drained here, but he ignored that feeling.

Re: Machines of War

The ship continues to move towards the Jedi Temple at increasing speed, ripping the very planet open beneath its massive beam.

…Jedi Temple…

Mikaela’s hand moves to her lightsaber at George’s approach. Who was this? A rogue? Or a Sith? To arrive at such a time is... suspicious. She feels through the Force for the stranger’s connection. He bears no corruption of the darkside. But she is still wary. Palpatine had hidden his true identity from the entire Jedi Council for decades.

She immediately searches through the Force for Master Orcor. He would know who this intruder really was, where his allegiances lie. And more importantly… would know what was happening to Corsucant. She finds him outside the Jedi Temple, pulling fellow Jedi from beneath the rubble of the Temple’s crumbling walls.

She turns to Bao. “Take care of Lsugi, please. I’m going to find Master Orcor.” She swirls to face George again. “You…” she says coldly. “Come with me.”

As George and Mikaela leave Lsugi’s pulse quickens drastically, his body goes into shock, and he begins to hyperventilate. Before Bao can do anything to help him, the Twi’lek is dead.

Re: Machines of War

George felt a breeze going through when Mikaela coldly said to follow her. He walked beside Mikaela and looked and a fallen Twi'lek body. Once again he remembered that Dark Hooded man killing those civilians like they were nothing. He turned his head around and looked at Mikaela. She tried her with his smile, but all he got was a cold look.  He thought that he really had no luck with women, but shook away that thought. He had more important matters now. Like who was Master Orcor. He thought that he knows that name, but he couldn't remember exactly.
So George was walking by Mikaela in silence. Waiting for her to get him to Master Orcor.

Re: Machines of War

Bao looks at the body, stunned. It had happened so quickly. Only minutes before, Lsugi had been training; now he lay still. Even to one accustomed to dealing with death, its weight comes down heavily on Bao. He slowly rises to his feet, still looking at the Jedi.

"There's no need," he replies. "He is one with the Force now."

Turning, he looks at Mikaela and George, struggling to control the emotion welling up inside.

"We have to find out what is going on here," he says.

------Meanwhile------

Grand Master Tran and his Jedi contingent make the jump into hyperspace.

"I only hope we arrive in time," he thinks to himself.

Re: Machines of War

The ship closes in on the Jedi Temple. Few had ever dared to attack Coruscant before but now... this. A full on assault which seemed intent, not on capturing the Republic capital, but on leaving the planet void of life. It had been completely unexpected.

Even with emergency protocols the Republic had been unable to launch any new ships to attack the menacing threat above them before it unleashed hell on the planet. And whatever ships had been orbiting Coruscant were lost to the shockwave when the massive ship entered Coruscant space.

Suddenly the ship's beam fades as it moves to hover over the Jedi Temple.

...Jedi Temple...

Mikaela simply nods and moves towards the exterior of the Jedi Temple. Master Orcor was there. Somewhere.

...Outside the Jedi Temple...

He saw the pillars crack under a weight they could not longer sustain. Watched as the wall crumbled. He had tried to warn the Jedi but his voice had been drowned out by the clamers of terror and the overhanging doom. The Jedi was crushed beneath a portion of the crumbling Temple's exterior wall.

Keir rushes forward towards the Jedi, looking around for help. Where the hell was everyone? He looks down at the aged Jedi. He is alive but his entire lower body is crushed. Blood drips from his open mouth as his eyes blink slowly. Keir considers simply leaving the Jedi. He would die even if Keir helped him.

Keir shakes his head. The ship stops overhead. It is a promising turn of events. He is probably going to die so he decides he might as well help while he could. This Jedi might even have useful information. About what was happening. Or where the Jedi escape pods were.

He pushes his shoulder against the rubble, throwing his weight in behind him, trying with all his might to lift the crumbled wall off the Jedi's body. It doesn't budge. He looks around and sees three figures exiting the Temple.

He waves frantically. "Hey, over here!"

...Meanwhile...

Mikaela notices a man waving his arms about like a mad man. She barely catches what he says but immediately rushes to him. Perhaps someone was hurt. She needed to look for Orcor but as a Jedi is obligated to help. She nears the man and notices a body at his feet, crushed beneath a portion of wall.

She recognizes the man and gasps, rushing to his side. "Master!" she cries.

Keir nods. "He's alive but barely. Ain't going to last long. Are you Jedi? We need to get this s**t off him."

Re: Machines of War

George was simply walking by Mikaela and thinking about what to say to Master Orcor, he felt that something has changed in the Force. He looked around but didn't notice anything until he and Mikaela got out the Jedi Temple. The beam from that ship started to fade? But it is so close to the temple. Suddenly he noticed Mikaela run off to some guy that was waving, so he went after her. After she cried out Master, George felt fear. If Master Orcor has died than who's going to save them? Then he heared this man asking something, it took him a second to realize what.

"Yes we're Jedi, stand aside" George started grasping through the force creating a mental shield around him, so that no one could hear what is he thinking... And wrapped the broken pillars with the force and raised them above the Master's body. he then slowly placed the rubble aside and released them.

He then looked at the Masters body and hoped that it was not Master Orcor.

Re: Machines of War

"The loss of your padawan is troubling, Grand Master Skywalker."

The whole council eyed Tran judgmentally, even haughtily. Master Ti'gla frowned menacingly. Master Grom's expression wasn't as openly hostile, but perhaps even more contemptuous.

"How can the rest of the students be expected to follow the Jedi Code when the Grand Master's own pupil has committed such things," Grom continued. "Your first padawan becoming a grey Jedi is one thing, but this...This is unacceptable."

"I wonder...is it the history of your bloodline that makes your students turn aside from the Jedi path...Or your own inadequacy as a Jedi?" Ti'gla interjected with a sneer.

Tran stood straight, still, unflinching under the interrogation of the council. He had foreseen this.

"I offer no explanation or defense," he said. "My students are trained in the Jedi ways just as yours are. I do not make their choices for them. They have free will, and will choose the path they deem the wisest. I have faith that my teachings will guide them, either now or in years to come when they have more understanding."

"Until then, your students are becoming a corrupting force in this order!" said Grom.

"Two students in twenty years hardly constitutes a force."

"Your ability to guide this council has come into question, therefore we recommend you be relieved of your duties as Grand Master until a thorough investigation can be made!" Ti'gla said.

"That is a matter for the whole council to decide, Master Ti'gla," said an aged Rodian in broken Basic. "You may put it to a vote if you wish, but do not speak for us in this decision."

Tran winced at the memory. Hyperspace always brought visions to him...past...present...future...

"I hate spacetravel!" he said to himself.

------------------Meanwhile-----------------------------------
(Coruscant)

Bao hurries to the far side of the rubble.

"Lift, through the Force. The three of us can get this off of him!" he yells.

Stretching out his arms, he telekinetically grips the wall segment and thrusts upward. The size and weight are immense. Don't let that distract you he tells himself. Feel the Force welling up underneath it, lifting it like a flood.

The walls trembles.

"Get ready to pull him out!" he gasps to Keir.

Re: Machines of War

Forgot to mention, Vertoes have the ability to... condense their forms so they're roughly the size of normal Transformers. This happens on occassion when they are addressing the Agon or other smaller species in non-hostile ways.
-----------------------------------------------

Mikaela closes her eyes, focusing through the Force, lending her powers to help lift the rubble off Orcor. Keir quickly grabs the Jedi Master under his arms and pulls him from beneath the hovering rocks. The trio of Jedi Knights take deep breaths and cut their concentration, the rubbling tumbling to the ground once more.

Mikaela puts her arm behind Orcor's neck, lifting the upper portion of his body so he can spit out the blood in his mouth. "My girl... you must leave... this place," he coughs.

Mikaela shakes her head, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I won't leave you, Master."

Orcor raises a weary hand towards Mikaela's face but it falls short. He looks at Mikaela's face, his eyes glazed as if he isn't really looking at her, however, but beyond her. To another place perhaps. Another time.

"He told me to wait," he begins slowly. "Told me they would come... come to take it. Many years I was to wait... many, many years," he takes a raggedy breath, "was to... protect their secret... but now... others come..."

He leans his head back against Mikaela's arm so he can look at the colossal ship which looms above the Temple. "They come for it... and they will not stop... until it is in their grasp..."

Orcor moves his other hand, drawing attention to it. His bony, bloody fingers are clasped tightly around something small which seems to glow faintly. He looks back at Mikaela with an empty smile.

"I must... protect..." he gasps, his head rolling back against Mikaela's arm again so he is now starring up at Keir who stands above him, looking on with a solemn demeanor.

"You," he smiles, joy emerging in his dark eyes, "within you... lies a true soldier... fearless and strong... willing to fight..." he pauses and his voice lowers to a whisper, escaping the notice of his audience. "If you only... knew the costs..."

Orcor gathers his strength, lifting the hand withthe object in it towards Keir. "You must... protect their secret..."

Keir grabs Orcor's hand, slowly removing the amulet wrapped around Orcor's fingers. For a moment, Keir merely stares at the strangely glowing amulet but then looks back the dying Jedi.

Orcor nods slightly. The man didn't understand but perhaps he need not. Not now. Now he needed to leave, to take their secrets with him. Beams of lights flash across the ground around them. It seems the invaders were looking for survivors.

The ship above rumbles and doors along its belly open. Beams emerge from these openings and large... objects begn to decent on the Temple roof. Orcor turns to Mikaela again, fear in his eyes.

"Leave this place... my dear girl," he coughs. "Leave me here... now..." he adds, pushing Mikaela away. "They are coming..."

Re: Machines of War

George just blinked at the small glowing object. He felt nervous about it. But then he had to ask him. He approached Master Orcor as he was pushing Mikaela away, he kneeled beside her and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Master Orcor. Who is coming?" He had to know, Master has to give him an answer. "Do you mean the Sith? They are already here. I've fought with them on my way to this place." Drops of sweat begun to fall down his face, and his eyes stared at him full of hope and fear. "Tell me, Master Orcor, please."

Change to the Verto "condensing forms"... they can now also condense into human sized forms (there is going to be a Verto human form in my new sig so you can look at that to kinda get the visual image of what they look like). They just keep getting better!  wink  tongue Be back soon to post.  big_smile

Re: Machines of War

Orcor shakes his head quickly. "Oh, no. Not Sith... much older. Far more... powerful." His eyes barely focus on George's face as if -once again -he is not seeing George but something far beyond. "Be careful, Guardian..." he begins wearily. "The Vél'inan are not ones... to be triffled with. But I'm afraid fate... has already choosen your path this day... and it may lead you to... to nothing but conflict with them. Pain, loss, and... and betrayal are all in store for you... young Jedi, but do not lose... your faith so easily. The night is always darkest... just before the dawn."

His head turns sharply to Bao. "Guard carefully... that which has been entrusted to you... and your accomplices, Zabrak... with your life if you must. And let not... the darkness overwhelm you."

Orcor pushes once again against Mikaela and now also against George, pushing them away, urging them to leave. "No more questions... the more you speak... the faster death rushes... upon you. Leave... now! If I die by those beasts... then I have served by purpose... and the Sa'vunin shall have their... salvation..."

Orcor touches Mikaela's face one last time. "I have done... what I could... dear girl. Tell them..." he stops, tears forming in his eyes. "Tell them... I'm sorry... if it was not enough..."

Quick vocabulary lesson:

The Nex Addo (Vertoes) speak an ancient language known to the species as Khenan which means "the words of our fathers". Along the way new words will be introduced here and there so I'll post the meanings so you don't get lost.  smile Note: These aren't Latin words. They're just... complicated. lol

Vél'inan: (plural) dark ones (lit); usurpers - Vertoes which have become corrupt and seek the destruction of the Supreme Commander and the Sa'vunin.

Sa'vunin: (plural) the people - Vertoes who remain loyal to the Supreme Commander.

Re: Machines of War

George shook his head in disbelief, as he was standing up. Fate? Guardian? Path? Pain? Loss? Betrayal? He looked up towards that ship. Those Vei' something. He thought that he should stay here. It is better to die than to have destiny playing with your life, but then he saw something in the distance. He reached out with the force, and felt nothing but darkness. He looked back at Orcor and Mikaela, and he placed his hand on her shoulder.
"C'mon, Mikaela, something dark is coming. I can feel them. We must go now!" For the first time in his life, George was scared. But he did not let it show that. He placed his left hand on his lightsaber, and he felt safer. More secure.
Master Orcor said something about him being a Guardian. But he didn't have time to think about that know.
"Mikaela?" His voice was cold as he called her, but you could still see uncertainty and fear on his face.

Re: Machines of War

"You know that I have always encouraged you to find your own path, but this is madness."

Tran was pacing the small room, obviously disturbed. A young man, barely an adult, was unloading the contents of a drawer into a travel case.

"You have said yourself that the Jedi Code is inconsistent and weak," the boy says. "I am going to find the truth."

"Wait until your training is complete," Tran urges. "I have much still to teach you. Knowledge that will protect you. You do not yet understand the Force or even yourself."

"I know enough to learn for myself. What I felt of the darkside in that cave has only left me with questions, and the answers are not here."

Tran sighs.

"I will not stop you. As much as I want you to stay, you have reached the point where you must make your own decisions. But understand this, any decision that you make has consequences. And you must live with them forever. I cannot protect you or guide you if you leave."

"That is why I have to go. I have to understand and grow on my own," the young man says. He locks the case and hoists it onto his back. Turning to Tran, he smiles. "I know the danger of the darkside. But I have to understand the nature of the Force before I can commit to becoming a Seer. I will return."

He shakes Tran's hand. Tran nods, then hands him a small package.

"Take this with you. It is an heirloom I have long treasured. May its legacy guide you and remind you of what you learned here, Li."

"Sir, we are nearing Coruscant."

Tran shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. "Very good, captain."

Could he have helped avert all of this?

...........Meanwhile........................

Bao takes one last look at Orcor, his final command sinking into his mind. Then he grabs Mikaela's arm and urges her to leave.

"We have to find out what is going on! Our master is gone."
