Topic: Can't Get Past Launcher Loading Screen

I don't know if this is where I'm supposed to post this, but...

I'm having trouble running KotOR I on the Vista machine. Big surprise.

Funny thing is, however, is that it worked fine about a year ago, no patches, no compatibility mode, nothing.

But now I can't seem to get past the loading screen right after the launcher (the splash screen that depicts the Ebon Hawk)

I had some video card issues, considering mine was a bit too new for this, so I downloaded some drivers and the 'failed' in the scan hardware dealy thing is now a 'warning'. So I should theoretically be able to play it, right?

The loading screen starts up, shows me the Ebon Hawk for a few seconds, then shuts off without so much as an error message or blue screen of death.

I've tried compatibility mode, the patches, downloading drivers, reinstalling, changing from fullscreen to windowed, and nothing's worked.

Problem. I recomend to get a Windows XP. Much better than a Vista.I use it, with no problem, and I just got a new card.

Yes. because I can just switch to XP with a snap of my fingers. XD I don't have a legal copy and I'd rather stick with Vista because this game worked in the past already, so I know I'm just doing something little and stupid.

Just switch to windows XP, its better for your computer. my dad just got one, and i asked if he installed vista and he said,its bad.

switching back to XP would be super hard tho, even if he had a copy he'd likely lose a lot of stuff.

if it was working before, likely one of the updates or patches is now interferring with the program. (I had an issue a while back when I downloaded a manufacture's update for my sound card, and nearly locked the computer up and had to run a system restore.) that's kind of an extreme example, and hopefully you won't have to do anything like that. since you say it worked before, my guess would be an update or driver is causing it to foul up.

Yeah, I'm guessing that I may just have to reformat my computer considering it worked when I first bought the thing. I'll just have to back some stuff up first.

And no, I really don't want to switch back to XP. This is the first problem I've had with Vista. It works fine for me. I'm sure it's just an update or patch that's causing this tomfoolery.

yeah, that's gotta be frustrating.

I have Vista and run KOTOR I on it, and it's not really too bad.

Yeah, it ran perfectly last time. Never crashed and I may have had one glitch during the entire game.

Nope.
Didn't happen.
Reformatted my entire computer to factory condition and I got the same error.
The Ebon Hawk splash screen loader stays around for a couple seconds then disappears.
Woohoo.

I might have an idea. Update the game to the latest version you can google. Afterwards, go through the entire KotOR folder, and set every thing in the folder, (and sub-folders) to run w/ windows service pack 2, or windows 2000. You might want to try windows 2000 first. No, google it. Official or not, Download it. Then, I mean everything possible, .exe, might be the only ones you can, sorry, that I can't remember exactly. But, yeah, shortcuts, applications, the whole 9 yards.

Me? I'm still here. I've just kind of given up on KotOR for now. I've tried everything suggested and nothing worked. Ah well.
