Battle for Middle Earth rocked cause it combined elements of Two Towers and Return of the King with the strategy map layout. Plus you could go through so many levels!!! not just the story levels but the entire Middle Earth Map. Battle For Middle Earth II was a pretty awesome game too, but i've only played that at a friends house, i don't own it.

I really don't know about the mod thing Zeph; a lot of games have map editors built in anyways; and as long as they don't sell the mod then i think it should be ok.
