But anyway I would recommend that you at least play the second game (the first one has a boring combat system but a little better story than the second) And the third one blows away both games in all compartments.

Just in case anyone else was considering getting Witcher 1 & 2 before playing the third, Steam sale means they're currently going for about £3 together.
(I don't know what the rules on advertising are here, but I figured this was worth a mention, sorry if I broke any rules)

I can deal without party members (though I do love a bit of party banter), but in Reckoning there's so much running around with little other than random fights between quests. And even the characters you meet rarely give you much reason to care. (This might be why I have yet to finish the game, as of yet I'm only in area 3/5.)

Basically I just wanted to check that in Witcher you get enough interaction to feel involved.
Though, with no party members I'd hopefully be able to avoid the constant setting them on fire I had in Origins because they kept walking in front of my mage. Yes, Alistair, I'm looking at you.

It's not like dragon age. You are a Witcher, you go alone to hunt monsters.

Do you at least have other characters you get to know?
Because one of the bug-bears I had about KoA: Reckoning was that you're pretty much alone throughout and you don't really get to know any other characters at all. There's like two or three recurring characters that you only ever encounter when you do the main storyline (which isn't a whole lot of the game) and everyone else is a "hi, I have this problem, please help. ... thanks, bye!" and after however many hours I've put into that game, it takes away a sense of involvement. Or maybe that's just me or the particular way it's done in that game.

Should you play the first two games before this one, or would it be still as good to pick up the storyline and everyone from starting at the third one?
