There are gravity hammers and energy swords that have more impregable damage than the old wooden/metal spear, sword, and shield. Talking about shields, halo spartans have energy shields and over sheilds plus the mjolnir amor I talked about. The spartan's from 300 don't really wear armor, (I bet the director wants to show the aggresive personality and instinctive attacks and maybe the muscularity wants to be shown). By the way in 300, when the son of the warrior was bludgeoned, meaning head coming off, he could've worn a mjolnir helmet (such as the master chief's) and it wouldn't have damaged him. When the halo spartan's use assault rifles and plasma rifles, the "original spartans" used arrows. So in talking about ammo and ranged weapons, the spartan's would lose. And plasma rifles are an even higher technology because it uses plasma energy. But the halo spartan's use plasma pistols to take out covenant shields easily.
