Well you have a lot of choices to make in the new Witcher and you have different endings. But the story is about Geralt of Rivia, so you can't customize him (except for his hairstyle).
The thing about this game is that it is based of a series of novels "The Witcher" by Andrzej Sapkowski, and CD Projekt has stayed true to the characters from the books.
As for the rest you should really watch youtube gameplay videos and watch the interviews. And you could try playing the second game The Witcher: Assassin of Kings. It's awesome too.

If you like Dragon Age you guys should check out The Witcher: Wild Hunt. It comes out in May on PC and consoles and it's gonna be awesome.
As for DA:I it is amazing especially the main storyline, but what I didn't like was most of the side quests felt dull and where the type of go there and fetch that. There were a few good ones but mostly they were boring to me

My favorite part of the game was when you left Haven. That has to be one of the best scenes in gaming.
Also my favorite part is hunting dragons. Dragon fighting is much better than in last two games.
