Chapter 12: A Pact Sealed

Darth Revan closed his eyes in the captain’s chair of his ship, which was deep in hyperspace. He was focusing all his efforts on locating one man whom he desired greatly to speak with. After many long hours of drifting in hyperspace, he finally opened his eyes behind his mask, smiled, and punched in new coordinates into the navcomputer. With a lurch, his ship changed course and plowed onward towards its new destination. Revan, impatient, got up and began to pace about in anticipation of his arrival.

(Time passes)

A loud beeping from the computer told Revan that he had reached his destination. He walked decisively to the head of the ship to gaze out the window at the hammerhead style spaceship that was sitting in front of him. He checked his readings and saw the ship was only broadcasting a name, The Lazarus. Revan’s warship, The Archangel moved slowly toward the big hammerhead ship.

Suddenly, a cold robotic voice came in over the intercom, “incoming craft, please state your name, passengers, cargo, and intentions.”

“This is Darth Revan you mechanical piece of shit,” he spat back into the intercom, “my cargo and passenger is myself, my business is none of your concern.”

There was a few minutes silence where the droid presumably checked its instructions.

“Archangel you are clear to board,” the voice said.

Revan slowly maneuvered the ship into position so that he could be taken into the Lazarus’ bay. Upon being fully secured, Darth Revan stepped outside his ship, clad fully in sith armor, causing the droids who had been clamoring by the ship to immediately scatter in all directions. A quick delve into the force showed him where onboard his query was. After passing through the bridge and main portion of the ship, he walked down a corridor that took him further back into the ship and about halfway down there, he turned left down another shorter hallway that ended in a door.

“Come in,” the familiar voice called from behind the door, “I was expecting you ages ago.”

Revan wordlessly applied a light force push to the door, which immediately slid aside to allow him through. There, seated in a cross between something like a throne and a high backed captain’s chair, Lord Reika sat gazing out into space seemingly unperturbed by his visitor’s abrupt entrance.

“We need to talk Reika,” Revan said curtly.

“Do we now?” Reika asked with a cold, high mirthless laugh.

“And what, pray tell, does the great Darth Revan want with me?” he further inquired, stroking his chin in an amused fashion, still not looking at Revan.

“Last I checked, I was sitting here in space minding my own business when you barged in to see me, how rude, I have been waiting here for you for this past week,” Reika chuckled, still with no actual genuine humor in his tone.

“Drop the charades Reika,” Revan barked, “you know damn well why I’m here.”

“Oh yes,” Reika mused, “I do indeed know why you have come, for you see, there can only be one reason why have sought me ought on your own and have not thus far tried to kill me.”

“You are here; concerning the offer I made you the last time we spoke, are you not?”

“I am,” Revan said, after swallowing hard, he had never found it this unnerving to speak to anyone in his life.

“You wish to join me and become my left-hand man,” Reika stated plainly.

“But I wonder,” he continued, cutting off a reply from Revan, “what could have possibly caused you to change your mind this drastically.”

“I know,” Reika said, with a facetious tone of sudden realization, “your children.”

“You realize that the best chance of finding and saving your children lies in uniting forces with me.”

It was not a question; it was a statement of absolute fact.

“If you swear to help me find my children and save them, then I will pledge my allegiance to you and you alone.”

“Remove your helmet then,” Reika said, almost casually.

A bit off-set, Revan did as he was told, and removed his helmet.

“Kneel before me Revan,” Reika said in a low croak.

Once again, Revan did as he was instructed, and kneeled before the throne like chair.
At last, Reika stood up slowly and walked around his chair to look at Revan with his eyes closed.

“Look into my eyes Revan,” Reika whispered.

Revan was reluctant to look up, not knowing what he would find if he did.

“If you want my help, then you will do exactly as I say,” Reika said in a low voice that conveyed no anger but nevertheless paralyzed Revan.

Slowly, Revan turned his gaze upward and was met by the most terrifying sight Revan had ever seen. He was staring into a pair of dead grayish-red eyes, the sight of which was burning his own retinas in a kind of hypnotic trance that rendered him unable to look away. Although the moment endured only a few seconds, it was an eternity unto itself.

“Now, rise Darth Revan,” Reika commanded.

Revan stood up, wordlessly replacing his helmet, and walked back out onto the bride, leaving Reika to close his eyes and walk back to his chair, to gaze out into the stars once more, and let his mind drift and ponder his usual endless array of subject matters.
