Chapter 1

She watched him from the other side of the force cage she had been imprisoned in, her belongings taken when she had been caught. His eyes were focused and clear, she felt a sense of balance within him as he looked upon her half naked form with those soft brown eyes. His close shaved hair revealing the small cuts that would usually have been covered up if his hair had been allowed to grow out. His stance was one of strength and calm, the way he held himself with his shoulders back and straight, his feet apart just enough to allow him to take action at a moments notice. Everything about the way he presented himself whispered of his potential. Her own stance, however, was one of failure and defeat. She sat on the thin mattress of her bunk, knees curled up to her chest, her long head tails hanging down across her shoulders over her chest. Even though the air in the room was regulated, a shiver ran across her sea blue flesh as she breathed in his scent. She had a way of taking everything in and finding the answers to the unseen riddles that swan through her mind.

“Mandalorian?” She asked finally breaking the silence arching an eye brow. Her soft red eyes flecked with small golden specks focused on his slowly up turning lips, a scar runny from the upper lip along the left side of his mouth to his cheek.

“Correct.” His voice was soft and comforting in a way that warm water was on a sore body. His eyes even seemed to smile at her as he motioned a chair from the corner to himself through the force. “Now, its my turn.” He sat down and crossed his legs, the folds of his dark brown robe shifting, exposing a pair of worn pants tucked into equally worn and fading boots. His right hand moved to his lips as he folded the other under his arm, looking to be in deep thought as his eyes beheld her.

She had been wearing a suit of old Echani armor when he had captured her, so after taking her out of the armor, she had little else other then her under garments that did little hide her figure in its attempts to cover her more sensitive parts. It reminded him that he should have one of the guards retrieve his extra robe for her after he finished his interrogation. Letting the rhythmic vibration of the small corvette’s twin ion engines add to the calming effects of simply being able to sit down and talk in a civilized manner, rather then the frantic discussions they had earlier with lightsabers swinging and blaster bolts darting between them here and there. Nikko let out a slow practiced breath, his mind already locking onto the answer he had need of.

“Tees Eeda, former jedi counselor. Born on Nal Hutta as a slave to Ulgaa Hutt.” The file he had on her read like a typical Twi’lek slave girl résumé, with the exception being that she was able to escape and later joined the Order. But that was until she had joined the quickly growing numbers of jedi rushing off to fight in the Mandalorian war.

“I see someone’s managed to dig up my file from the jedi archives.” her voice was soft and gentle.

“Guilty. I don’t like going into something without knowing a bit more about my mission.” He was young around twenty seasons by her best guess, but the Mandalorians had always started training their young once the child could pick up a blaster or blade.

“Well I’ll forgive you just this once.” They had never known each other, they had never even spoken until two days ago when Nikko and his small commando strike team had infiltrated the small sith listening outpost she had been sent to manage. An assignment she hated and was some what relieved to have been taken away from. But now she sat aboard a republic ship, doubtlessly heading to one of the jedi’s secret bases where she will have to endure hundreds of lectures and half ass attempts to turn her back to the lightside. The thought of having to deal with stuck up jedi masters who had chosen to hide behind the wall of republic soldiers in order to avoid dealing with the Mandalorians, made her sick. “So do you really think that turning me over to some old grey haired, wrinkled skin monotone voiced Jedi Master is going to help me see the horrible errors of my way and beg forgiveness?”

“Nope, but I can only hope.” Nikko had still been an apprentice during the war, not to mention the fact that he was mandalorian himself. The war was to conflicting for him to take a side, feeling blood bound to answer the call of Mandalor and at the same time honor bound to carry out his the duties as a jedi. “If anything else, this will keep me from having to hunt you down and killing you later in life.”

“Oh my such a noble little Jedi.” Tees grinned as she touched her chest and blinked her eyes mockingly.

“What does the Empire have planned for the outer rim?” Nikko’s eyes drifted upwards to a spot directly over Tees’ head avoiding the small show the twi’lek was giving as she stretched out to lay on the bed.

“Nothing much, a little of this and that. Best not to say too much, I don’t want to spoil things for you.” She rolled onto her side facing him, noticing his avoidance at looking at her. “I always did love surprises.” She felt a slight stab of annoyance at his continued show of restrain. Just once she wanted him to look at her and feel something. Just once, that’s all it would take to start weaving her spell and then soon enough get out of this mess she had fallen into.

“Well I guess I’ll just have to ask again tomorrow.” Nikko quickly stood up and left the room, the doors hissing closed behind him as he left the lights dimming slightly. Two republic commandos stood to attention on either side of the doors, their orange and gold uniforms wrinkled from constant wear. Both soldiers had standard issue blasters, but they also had vibro swords hanging off the belts at their hips. Nikko nodded to them and walked off towards his own bunk in the aft compartments of the ship.

The darkness around him had been comforting, deep and calming as he allowed his mind to float freely through the emptiness of space. Being able to release his concerns and hopes and just experience the flow of the force as he had come to believe the only way to truly feel the purity and strength that it offered those who knew how to look for it. It felt like a welcoming embrace from a parent awaiting the return of its child after a hard day of playing in the jungles around the village. It was the answer he wanted to find after a long day of looking. That was until he began to feel another presence within his small bubble of tranquility. At first it started to be nothing more then an annoying little buzz of an insect in your ear as you tried to sleep, then it started to grow into an irritating blister of red and blue swirling light in his other wise dark room. Of course there was no light other then the small glowing key panel next to the door, but when he closed his eyes and focused he could see the slowly growing point of light in the direction of the holding cell that Tees was being kept.

The mere thought of her name caused the small dot to grow with a sudden flare and slowly take the vague shape of the twi’lek female. A slight stab of anger caused the image in his mind to focus into a sharper image of the twi’lek, her gentle curves and quirky smile that she loved to flaunt in what he could only guess to be her attempts in flirting with any man she had plans to manipulate later on. She left a strange taste in his mind, if that was at all possible, making him wish that the Tees Eeda that he had been sent after was a hideous sith covered in tattoos and ritualistic brandings. Not a young girl that looked like a sane rational being capable of blending in with crowd of regular people. With a grunt of annoyance, Nikko opened his eyes and stood up. His bare chest heaving with a saddened sigh of acceptance, realizing that until she had been delivered and left planet side while he ventured back out into space, he wouldn’t have the peace he needed to reach that oneness with the force that he desired.

Before he could pull his tunic on his communicator buzzed, a flood of excitement passing through the ship as the crew began to run through the all to familiar actions of readying for something big. With little effort the communicator flew into his hands, his thumb switching the small thing on as he reached for his door.

“What’s going on?” His voice remained calm despite his slight annoyance.

“Sorry to disturb you sir, but we’ve been given a priority one message from the Jedi counsel.”

“I’m on my way.” Nikko stepped through the door before it could fully cycle open and was already half way down the hall when it began to cycle shut.

“It looks like you will have to entertain your guest a little longer, Berrak. But this sudden silence of the Czerka corporation research station is some what troubling to say the lest.” The blue halo image of an aged Rodian wavered slightly as the transmission came in and out of focus.

“I understand Master Reeno. Can you tell me anything about what Czerka was doing before we lost contact with them?” Nikko started to plot out a series of situations in his mind, coming up with a strong tactical solution for each.

“The last information we had was that their deep space probes had found a derelict ship of unknown origins.” Master Reeno’s image bent and stretched before returning to its proper size and shape.

“Some sort of new Sith vessel?”

“We’re not sure the Sith have anything to do with this. But don’t rule it out.” There was a pause as the Rodian stepped to the side allowing the image of his old master to appear next to his fellow council member.

“Master Tarkin, good to see you again.” Nikko gently bowed to the image of his master.

“Nikko.” The aged man greeted. “I want you to understand that there are still things out there in this universe that we have yet to see or deal with. While the Sith remain a very large and very real threat to the galaxy and the Republic as a whole, there are other things out there that might not wish to share the known reaches of the universe with us. The council. I feel that there is something more then simple sabotage at work here. I’ve been able to glimpse something through the force, but at this time with the galaxy in chaos I can’t focus on what that might be exactly.”

“I understand master, My men and I will exercise caution.” Nikko once again bowed, the images wavering violently and fading into a tiny little blue green dot that quickly vanished.

“Lieutenant, set course for the Space Station. I want the team ready for a possible hostile threat.”

“And what should we do about the prisoner sir?”

“I’ll deal with her. Something tells me that we’ll require some of her more intimate insights if we are dealing with a Sith force.” Nikko walked back out of the bridge and headed down to the holding cell where Tees sat lazily on her bed, legs slightly bent as she slowly circled her arms in the air as if conducting some unheard symphony.
