 Star Wars

“We’ve got the codes, now what?” I asked.

“Meet me at Javyar’s tomorrow morning.” was all Canderous said before cutting off out communication.

With nothing left to do, we went back to camp and got some rest. Daybreak came soon enough that I couldn’t remember what I dreamt of. As I left, Carth and Zaalbar decided to accompany me. Javyar’s was emptier than I’ve ever seen it since I got to Taris about a week ago. A week… it felt like a lifetime, then again, every planet had different time frames so a week in Taris was a really long time. Canderous was once again sitting at the same spot I saw him the last time I met him, eyeing not me, nor Zaalbar but Carth; like a predator on a hunt.

“The infamous Carth Onasi, we finally meet.” Canderous addressed Carth.

“Mandalorian.” Carth said.

Canderous turned to me and asked: “The codes?”

“It’s safe with me, now, how do we get the ship?”

“We steal it. We’re stealing the Ebon Hawk; it’s the only ship on this side of the galaxy fast enough to outrun that blockade but there’s a catch.”

“There always is isn’t there?”

Canderous ignored my comment and continued “The ship is owned by Davik Kang, I already have the launch codes for the Ebon Hawk; all we have to do once we’re in is to steal it.”

“What exactly are we waiting for then?” Carth butted in.

“The blockade codes. Davik already knows about you, he already knows that you have the codes, all that’s left is the introduction and someone to introduce you, and this is where I come in.” he replied.

Zaalbar said.

“Meet me again here after an hour, I’ll just straighten things out with Davik and you better finish everything that you still need to do, we won’t be seeing Taris for quite a while so if there’s a souvenir you need to buy do it now.” Canderous said sarcastically.

“You better be true to your word Mandalorian.” Carth threatened.

Canderous gave no reply, got up and left without another word. We headed back to the apartment we were using as camp and started packing up. I rechecked my equipment and armour, I didn’t want to walk into a hostile territory, or a territory that was about to become hostile, naked.

“Alright, Carth, you’re coming with me, if Canderous tries anything funny you can have his head. Everyone else, we’ll pick you up at the central garden of the upper city in an hour, Bastila you’re in charge-“I said before I was interrupted by Mission.

“How come she’s in charge?” she asked.

“Because she’s older.” Carth replied for me.

I fought back a laugh and continued, for the duration of the conversation, Mission was giving Carth dirty looks which Carth ignored, or at least I think he was ignoring them.

“Communications might be jammed inside Davik’s estate, if we’re not there at the pickup point on time, or at least 10 minutes late, leave and find another way off planet is that clear?” I asked them.

“Just try not to get killed, I’d hate to waste time trying to find your bodies dumped in the sewers somewhere.” Bastila replied.

“Aw, very touching ma’am. Let’s go Carth.” I said.
We met Canderous on time, no sooner had we arrived; we went up to the Upper City and got into a speeder to Davik’s estate.

Davik’s estate was huge. It was top floor of one of the highest skyscraper in Taris; the walls were made of heavily tinted glass which reflected any light that hit it. As we reached the landing pad on the extension of the roof, we saw two men waiting to greet us, one was a figure I already recognized, Calo Nord, the bounty hunter from the cantina. The other was a man in purple armour and a red cape like a senator. Even from the distance you could see that the armour was exotic, with designs of vines intersecting all across the armour, from head to foot. He was a man of around forty to forty-five with greying hair, big round eyes and slightly pointy ears. He was of normal built but judging from the looks of his armour, he had to be slightly muscular to be able to carry all that weight.

As we began landing, the man in purple armour, who I believed at this point to be Davik Kang stepped forward, with the bounty hunter, Calo Nord, a few steps behind.

“Welcome to Taris Eon Stormcrow, Canderous has told me much about you and your win at the season opener did not go unnoticed. As you very well have heard, I’m Davik Kang.” The man in the purple armour greeted us.

“A pleasure Mr. Kang, this is my companion Carth.” I replied.

“Ah, the infamous Carth Onasi, it seems my intelligence report was not as detailed as I expected it to be, I knew you were a Republic soldier but I didn’t know you were accompanied by the Carth Onasi himself.” Davik said with a bit of shock in his voice.

Without a moment’s pause Davik continued: “Come, before we all get to business I’ll show you around the estate please, follow me.”

As we walked Davik asked us a series of questions, he rarely gave us time to think as he barely moved his attention elsewhere, in fact he only gave a dangerous look at Canderous and Calo twice and didn’t pay them any attention for the rest of the tour.

“Tell me Carth, why would a hero like you want to work of a crime lord like me?” Davik asked.

“This war is getting tiring Davik, it’s been a week since we crashed landed here and not once did the Republic try to find us. What’s the point of fighting for them when they don’t care whether you live or die?” Carth answered rather realistically. I actually started to wonder whether what he was saying was true or just a cleaver bluff.

“Hmm, true, well then why did you and Eon here steal those blockade codes from the Sith?” Davik inquired to which I answered.

“Insurance Davik, you can never be too safe.”

“Ha ha, I like men with your way of thinking.”
We remained silent until we reached the hanger where the Ebon Hawk was stored. As we looked at the ship, Davik’s face seemed to light up with excitement.

“And here gentlemen, is my pride and joy, the Ebon Hawk. With the Sith blockade in progress in can’t bring he out but you should see her in action, there’s no ship like her.”

The Ebon Hawk was a freighter shaped in an irregular semi-circle with the cockpit right in the middle. It was painted with a brownish outline. If judged by looks alone, the Ebon Hawk looked like a fast ship with medium armour, a ship for smuggling. It looked fast enough to outrun a blockade but strong enough to hold on its own if it came to a fight; the perfect ship to get off planet.

Davik then brought us to the quarters of his guest and wait while he went to arrange a few inconsistencies in a shipment of his. Once he was gone, we got down to business…
